Frequently Asked Questions
Do you work in person or online?
We offer both in person and virtual sessions. Our office space is located in Halfmoon Bay and is adjacent to our family home. This creates a comfortable and relaxed place to meet and we have both adult and children’s therapy resources within our office space. We do like to advise our client’s that we do have small children who you may hear from time to time on the property. We also have two friendly cats and a dog who can be very supportive within the therapy process.
What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy is a specialized form of counseling that helps children explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through play. It is a developmentally appropriate approach to therapy, as play is a natural medium of expression for children. In a play therapy session, the therapist creates a safe and supportive environment where the child can freely engage in play activities such as drawing, storytelling, and using toys. Through these activities, the therapist gains insight into the child's inner world and helps them process their emotions, develop coping skills, and work through challenging experiences. Play therapy can be beneficial for children dealing with a wide range of issues, including trauma, anxiety, behavioral problems, and social difficulties.
What ages of children do you work with?
Leah offers therapy for children as young as 6 years old. The younger the child is, the more involved in the therapy process parents need to be. During your initial appointment, this will be discussed based on the needs of your child and their developmental level. Parent involvement can be for the whole session or just at the beginning or the end.

What is the difference between a Registered Social Worker (RSW and a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)?
Registered Social Workers who hold a Masters of Social work have completed their graduate degree and are licensed to provide therapeutic counselling and psycho-social interventions. We are regulated by the BC College of Social Workers and must demonstrate a high level of experience and skills within mental health and psycho-therapy approaches. A individual who holds a Master’s of Counselling can register as an RCC and has demonstrated knowledge in these areas as well. Both regulatory bodies license qualified individual’s to provide counselling services.
